
Dr. Sasa Jankovic
A leading expert in sports orthopedics and arthroscopic surgery in the region, Prof. Sasa Jankovic, MD, PhD, has nearly three decades of experience combining clinical practice, academic research, and high-level sports medicine. As a long-standing member of the Croatian national football team’s medical staff and head of the medical team at GNK Dinamo, he is recognized as a trusted authority in treating musculoskeletal injuries among professional athletes. He is also part of the expert medical team at the Patela Polyclinic, where he focuses on minimally invasive procedures, personalized care, and the advancement of modern orthopedic practice.
Qualifications
Prof. Jankovic graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, where he also completed his orthopedic specialization. He later earned both his master’s and doctoral degrees at the same institution. He is actively involved in academia and serves as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb. Over the years, he has also received advanced training at leading medical institutions across Europe.
Experience
Prof. Jankovic began his medical career at the Department of Orthopedics at Sveti Duh University Hospital, where he was appointed Head of Department in 2009. In addition to his clinical work, he has been deeply involved in the development of the Diagnostic Center at the Faculty of Kinesiology, where he independently conducts health and functional assessments for athletes and recreational patients of all ages. As part of his private practice at Patela Polyclinic, Prof. Jankovic performs specialized orthopedic procedures with a focus on minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques. He has operated on numerous elite athletes from Croatia and abroad, including members of national handball and football teams, as well as players from top-tier clubs such as Dinamo Zagreb, Hajduk Split, and NK Osijek.
Publications
With more than 60 published scientific and professional papers, Prof. Jankovic is also the author of several popular articles in various medical publications. His research interests span functional diagnostics, rehabilitation, and sports medicine, and he has actively contributed to numerous national and international research projects.
Membership
Prof. Jankovic serves as the head of the medical team at GNK Dinamo and has been a member of the Croatian national football team’s medical staff since 1998. He is also a member of the Medical Commission of the Croatian Olympic Committee and has participated in five FIFA World Cup tournaments (1998, 2002, 2006, 2018 – silver medal, 2022 – bronze medal).
Certificates
Prof. Jankovic is an internationally recognized arthroscopy specialist and frequent speaker at training courses in Naples, Rotterdam, Ljubljana, and Las Vegas. He introduced a unique surgical method combining anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstruction, which provides additional lateral knee stability and significantly reduces the risk of re-injury—especially among athletes.
