About

This test measures the amount of allergen-specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the blood as an indicator of allergies (hypersensitivity) to specific environmental substances (allergens). Determining the total IgE in the blood helps in detecting the presence of an allergic reaction in the body. By measuring specific IgE, we can identify which particular allergen is causing the allergic reaction. Allergens are classified based on their entry route into the body (inhaled, ingested, etc.). This test measures specific IgE for 20 of the most common inhalant allergens. These include allergens from the following groups:

  • Grasses: Finger-like Plantago (g2), Meadow Cat's Ear (g6)
  • Weeds: Ragweed (w1), Mugwort (w6), Plantain (w9), Medicinal Epazote (w19)
  • Tree Pollen: Birch (t3), Hazel (t4), Olive (t9), Plane Tree (t11), Cypress (t23), Viburnum (t210)
  • House Dust Mites: Dust Mite (d1, d2), Flour Mite (d70)
  • Animal Hair and Epithelium: Cat (e1), Dog (e2), Horse (e3)
  • Molds: (m2, m6)

Candidate

When your doctor suspects an allergic reaction but it is unclear what is causing it, or when there is a suspicion that you might be allergic to one of the following allergens (grasses, weeds, tree pollen, dust mites and household dust, flour mites, cat, dog, and horse dander, various types of molds). Additionally, if you experience allergic symptoms such as skin changes (rash, eczema, dermatitis), or if you frequently have symptoms similar to a cold (congested nose, cough, runny nose) after microbial causes (bacterial or viral infections) have been ruled out. Also, if you notice redness, increased tearing, or itching in the eyes, or if your doctor suspects you may have asthma.

Preparation

For determining specific IgE, no special preparation is required. There is no need to discontinue antihistamine therapy.

Treatment

To determine specific IgE, blood is drawn from a vein.

Result
