About

This test measures the amount of allergen-specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the blood as evidence of an allergy (hypersensitivity) to specific substances from food (allergens). Determining total IgE in the blood allows the detection of an allergic reaction in the body.

Determining specific IgE answers the question of which allergen caused the allergic reaction. Allergens are differentiated by their mode and route of entry into the body (inhaled, ingested, etc.). This test measures specific IgE to the 20 most common allergens that can be ingested with food: egg white (f1), egg yolk (f75), cow's milk (f2), baker's yeast (f45), wheat flour (f4), rye flour (f5), rice (f9), soy (f14), peanut (f13), hazelnut (f17), almond (f20), green apple (f49), kiwi (f84), apricot (f237), tomato (f25), carrot (f31), potato (f35), celery (f85), codfish (f3), and shellfish (f23).

Candidate

When your doctor suspects an allergic reaction, but the cause is unclear. When there is a suspicion that you are allergic to any of these allergens: egg white, egg yolk, cow's milk, baker's yeast, wheat flour, rye flour, rice, soy, peanut, hazelnut, almond, green apple, kiwi, apricot, tomato, carrot, potato, celery, codfish, shellfish. When symptoms of allergic reactions appear, such as skin changes (rash, eczema, dermatitis). If you frequently experience cold-like symptoms (stuffy nose, cough, runny nose), and microbial causes (bacterial or viral infections) have been ruled out. In the presence of chronic digestive problems, abdominal pain, frequent vomiting, and/or diarrhea.

Preparation

No special preparation is required for the determination of specific IgE. Antihistamine therapy does not need to be discontinued.

Treatment

To determine specific IgE, blood is drawn from a vein.

Result
