About

HBsAg is a protein found on the surface of the virus that causes hepatitis B. It appears in both acute and chronic infections, making it a key marker for screening and confirming HBV infection. It is the earliest indicator of acute hepatitis B, often detected even before the onset of the first symptoms of the disease, and is also a primary marker of chronic infection.

Hepatitis B is a disease characterized by inflammation and enlargement of the liver caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). HBV is the most common cause of acute hepatitis and the most widespread cause of chronic viral liver infections. It is transmitted through infected blood or sexual contact. Chronic hepatitis B can sometimes lead to cirrhosis or liver cancer.
