Test for sifilis

If you are experiencing symptoms of syphilis (changes in the genital area, skin rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, fatigue), have another sexually transmitted infection such as gonorrhea or AIDS, or engage in high-risk sexual behavior, you should undergo this test. Due to the risk of transmission of Treponema pallidum from the mother to the fetus through the placenta, all pregnant women should have this test done preventively in early pregnancy. The antitreponemal test is used to diagnose infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum, which is the pathogen for the sexually transmitted disease syphilis (lues). This test detects both IgM and IgG antibodies to the bacterium in the blood, increasing the accuracy of syphilis detection. The antitreponemal test is more effective in detecting syphilis than the VDRL test. However, since it is a screening test, any positive result must be confirmed with a confirmatory test.

No special preparation is required.

For this test, blood must be taken from a vein.

The results are ready on the same day.
