Test for sifilis
About
The antitreponemal test is used to diagnose infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum, the pathogen responsible for the sexually transmitted disease syphilis (lues). This test detects both IgM and IgG antibodies to the bacterium present in the blood, enhancing the accuracy of syphilis detection. The antitreponemal test is superior to the VDRL test in detecting syphilis. However, since it is a screening test, any positive result must be confirmed with a confirmatory test.
Candidate
If you are experiencing symptoms of syphilis (changes in the genital area, skin rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, fatigue), have another sexually transmitted infection such as gonorrhea or AIDS, or engage in high-risk sexual behavior, you should undergo this test. Due to the risk of transmission of Treponema pallidum from the mother to the fetus through the placenta, all pregnant women should have this test done preventively in early pregnancy.
