Tumor Markers for Women
About
In women, monitoring markers associated with gynecological cancers is particularly recommended, as these are among the most common malignant diseases in the female population.
The most important tumor markers for women include:
- CA-125 – Used for the detection and monitoring of ovarian cancer. Elevated levels may indicate the presence of the disease, although the marker can also increase in benign conditions such as endometriosis.
- CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) – Used to monitor various cancers, including colorectal and breast cancer.
- CA 15-3 and CA 27-29 – Specific markers for monitoring breast cancer, especially in later stages or for assessing recurrence.
- HE4 (human epididymal protein 4) – Used together with CA-125 to improve accuracy in detecting ovarian cancer.
- Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) – Helps diagnose tumors during pregnancy and certain rare ovarian tumors.
Regular monitoring of these markers is particularly important for women with a family history of malignant diseases or those at increased risk due to hormonal changes, lifestyle, or other factors.
