Electroencephalography (EEG)

Candidates for electroencephalography include individuals showing symptoms such as seizures, changes in consciousness, sleep disorders, traumatic brain injuries, or other neurological changes that require an assessment of brain electrical activity.

Prior to the EEG, patients are usually advised to avoid consuming food or drinks containing caffeine, as it may affect the results. They should also follow the physician's instructions regarding any specific preparation that may be required, such as discontinuing certain medications.

During the EEG, electrodes are carefully placed on the patient's scalp, usually according to a specific pattern or arrangement. The patient should sit or lie down during the placement of the electrodes, and during the recording, they should remain as still as possible to obtain accurate results.

EEG results can provide information about the electrical activity of the brain and help diagnose neurological conditions such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, or other neurological disorders. These results are typically analyzed by a neurologist to establish an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan.

EEG is generally a safe procedure. However, patients should be cautious and cooperate with the medical staff during the procedure. It is important to follow the instructions of the medical team and inform them of any unusual symptoms or discomfort during the procedure.
