Phakic lenses implantation

Candidates for phakic lens implantation are typically individuals with high diopter values or astigmatism who are not suitable candidates for traditional laser surgeries like LASIK or PRK. Additionally, candidates may be individuals who wish to correct refractive errors but have thin corneas or have had complications with other vision surgeries in the past.

Prior to the procedure, patients undergo a comprehensive eye examination to assess the eye structure and determine suitability for phakic lens implantation. It may be necessary to discontinue wearing contact lenses before the procedure to allow for corneal stabilization and accurate diopter measurements.

The phakic lens implantation procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia. Through a small incision in the cornea, the lens is carefully inserted into the anterior segment of the eye, usually in front of the natural lens. After the lens is placed, the cornea is either stitched or a special method is used to close the incision.

Following the procedure, many patients notice significant improvement in vision and reduction in diopter values. Most patients experience rapid recovery with minimal discomfort.

After the procedure, patients typically need to follow their ophthalmologist's instructions regarding the use of eye drops and avoiding rubbing the eyes. Regular follow-up appointments and monitoring by the ophthalmologist are important to ensure the procedure progresses successfully and there are no complications such as increased intraocular pressure or cataracts.
