Rapid urease test
About
The presence of Helicobacter pylori bacteria in biopsy samples of the gastric mucosa is checked with a rapid urease test.
Candidate
You need the test when you have dyspeptic or ulcer disorders such as pain in the upper abdomen, heartburn, flatulence, and nausea.
Treatment
During gastroscopy, the doctor takes a piece of the stomach lining for a rapid urease test (Rapid urease test = RUT). The test is based on the fact that the bacterial urease (H. pylori enzyme) in the biopsy sample changes the color of the special medium on the test strip. The test results are ready within 1 hour (most often after 30 minutes).
