Rectosigmoidoscopy is an examination of the final part of the large intestine with an optical, flexible instrument (endoscope) that enables the view of all anatomical structures of the straight, curved and descending part of the large intestine.
Candidate
The exam is needed if there is a suspicion of the existence of tumors and other lesions in the large intestine, and primarily in patients over 50 years of age.
Treatment
Rectosigmoidoscopy is a short colonoscopy that examines the straight, curved, and descending part of the colon (sigmoid colon and rectum) 60 to 70 cm in length.
