Brain ultrasound in children

About

Brain ultrasound in children is a non-invasive diagnostic method used to evaluate structures within the brain, especially in infants and young children. This method uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of the brain and allows doctors to identify any abnormalities such as bleeding, cysts, hydrocephalus (a build-up of fluid in the brain) or other structural problems.

Brain ultrasound is most often performed on newborns, especially those born prematurely, to monitor brain health during critical stages of development. Because the fontanelles (the soft parts on the baby's head) allow ultrasound waves to pass through, this method is safe and painless, and is usually used while the fontanelles are still open.

The examination takes a relatively short time and does not require special preparations, and is used for the early detection of serious conditions that may affect the child's neurological development.
