Vaccination

About

Vaccination is a medical procedure that protects the body from infectious diseases by administering vaccines. Vaccines contain weakened or dead pathogens or their components, which stimulate the immune system to build resistance without causing the disease itself. Regular vaccination is a key measure in preventing severe diseases and complications.

Mandatory Vaccinations in Croatia:

Based on the Law on the Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases, vaccination is mandatory against the following diseases:

  • Tuberculosis
  • Diphtheria
  • Tetanus
  • Whooping cough (pertussis)
  • Polio
  • Haemophilus influenzae type b
  • Hepatitis B virus
  • Measles (morbilli)
  • Mumps (parotitis)
  • Rubella
  • Streptococcus pneumoniae

These mandatory vaccinations are carried out according to the National Vaccination Program in the Republic of Croatia and are crucial in preventing the spread of infectious diseases within the community.

Optional Vaccinations:

In addition to mandatory vaccines, the clinic also offers vaccinations from the optional vaccination program, which include:

  • Rotavirus vaccination
  • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Invasive meningococcal disease (Neisseria meningitidis groups B, A, C, W-135, Y)
  • Tick-borne encephalitis
  • Flu
  • Hepatitis A virus
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV)

These additional vaccinations offer protection against diseases that are not mandatory but can have serious consequences. Regular vaccinations, both mandatory and optional, not only protect the individual but also the wider community by reducing the risk of outbreaks and safeguarding the health of all members of society.
