Pessary insertion
About
A pessary is a rubber or silicone vaginal ring that is placed in the vagina for the purpose of lifting the lowered uterus, and it works by keeping the organs in a physiological position and raising the front wall of the vagina, and thus the neck of the bladder and urethra. Although the treatment of such incontinence today is primarily surgical, for a small number of older women and those who cannot tolerate surgery and anesthesia due to illness, a pessary still has its value. Placing a pessary is part of the conservative treatment of women who have urinary static incontinence (inability to hold urine voluntarily) or descent and prolapse of the genital organs (falling out of the uterus and vagina).
