Ultrasonographic and Color Doppler (CD) thyroid examination

Candidates for UZV and CD thyroid examinations typically include individuals who experience symptoms related to the thyroid, such as changes in size, pain, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, weight disturbances, or other symptoms. Additionally, this examination may be recommended for individuals with abnormal thyroid blood test results.

Preparation for UZV and CD thyroid examinations is usually not required. The patient may need to remove jewelry or other items that could interfere with the examination. Also, it is helpful to inform the doctor about any previous surgeries in the neck or thyroid area.

Patient's Position: The patient usually sits or lies on their back during the examination. Application of Gel: Gel is applied to the thyroid area to improve contact between the skin and the ultrasound probe. Ultrasonographic Examination: The doctor or ultrasound technician uses an ultrasound probe to capture images of the thyroid. Color Doppler Examination: If CD is used, this part of the examination provides information about blood flow through the thyroid.

The results of UZV and CD thyroid examinations enable doctors to assess the size, shape, structure, and blood flow through the thyroid. These results can aid in making a diagnosis and planning further treatment, especially if irregularities such as nodules, cysts, or other changes are discovered.
